ABC Interviews MexiVet Express to Discuss Why Pet Owners Are Turning To Mexico for Pet Care

As the economy worsens, more and more pet owners are struggling to find affordable vet care for their four-legged family members in the United States. Luckily, MexiVet Express has been able to help hundreds of pet owners across the U.S. find the options they’ve been looking for just across the border in Tijuana, Mexico.

In 2018, Anna Gingsky, founder of MexiVet Express, was in a bit of a financial bind after a local vet in San Diego quoted her over $2,000 to get routine dental with a few extractions for her dog. As she started exploring her options south of the border, she realized the cost savings were significant. In fact, so significant she decided to start her own pet courier business to help others in the community save on their vet bills as well.

She started off as a one-woman-show, doing everything from finding the best possible vets in Tijuana to work with to driving pets to-and-from their appointments. Over the years her business expanded as prices in the U.S. continued to skyrocket and the demand for more affordable vet care options continued to grow. Now, six years later, MexiVet Express has received clients from all over the U.S. looking to save on services like pet dentals, surgeries, imaging, chemotherapy and more.

Recently, ABC’s Nightline featured a story on how MexiVet Express is part of the growing pet medical tourism industry happening in Mexico. The story features our client, Miguel Lazcano and his long-haired dachshund, Henry. The duo traveled all the way from their home in New York City to save on Henry’s dental procedure by using MexiVet’s services to get the four-legged patient safely across the border.

In the article Lazcano talks about how much his local vet was quoting, "They mentioned there was at least four extractions and the cost on the high end was around $5,000. And on the low end, was around $3,500."

By using MexiVet Express, Henry got a polished smile and four teeth extracted for around $600 (plus the cost of travel).

MexiVet Express was also featured in San Diego Magazines, Best Of San Diego 2024 list for the Best Puppy Passport Service, due to its cost-saving services. Needless to say, Ginsky’s dream of helping pet owners in San Diego save on their vet bills has become a reality bigger than she could’ve ever imagined.

What’s next for MexiVet Express? Let’s just say we don’t have any plans of slowing down. As long as there are pet owners in need of help, MexiVet Express will be here to lend a ride to their furry best friends.
