First Step: Request a Quote

From dental cleanings to TTA and TPLO surgeries, our vets offer a variety of services. Transportation and vet appointment costs will vary depending on where we pick up and drop off your pet, the services performed and any medications your pet may need. So, before we set up your vet appointment we like to provide you with a quote to give you a general idea of what your vet appointment will cost. Keep in mind that quotes are approximate, your final bill may be less or more depending on what you and the vet decide will be right for your pet. Any additional treatments will be discussed with you over the phone before the vet proceeds.

Transportation costs are based on time spent. We offer three different meeting spots where you can meet the MexiVet Express driver for your pet’s vet appt. Pick up and drop off at a meeting location is included in our base rate (included in your quote). If you would prefer at-home pick up and drop off, please let us know and we will calculate the additional cost for you.

Complete the Intake Forms

Once you review your quote and decide you want to move forward with a vet appointment one of our MexiVet Express admins will send you a link to complete a few forms. Documents will include a MexiVet Express contract, an intake form (for each pet)  and a deposit to secure your appointment. We have a 48-hour cancellation policy, otherwise your deposit is non-refundable.

Once this is all complete, you will be scheduled for an appointment with a clinic of your choice. Most services can be booked the same week you request them.  If you’re looking for a same-day vet appointment, text or call us in the morning to see if we have any drivers scheduled to go out in the afternoon. We try our best to accommodate our clients and their pet’s needs with timely vet appointments.

The Day Before Your Appointment

The day before your appointment, you will receive a text from one of our MexiVet Express admins with your pick-up time and important information about your vet appointment. We will ask that all pets fast before their appointment and to not be given food or water after 10 pm the previous day to ensure that all blood tests, sedation, or anesthesia can be performed the day of your appointment. Not adhering to this protocol may result in costly delays or rescheduling of your appointment or testing.

The Day of Your Vet Appointment

On the day of your appointment, your pet will not need anything. Remove all personal belongings like collars and do not send them with any personal belongings that may be lost in transit. Your assigned MexiVet Express driver will provide a crate for transportation and will have all your documentation. You will meet your driver at the agreed upon location and time. Once they have picked up all their furry passengers, they will transport your pet to the vet you chose in Mexico.

During your pet’s vet appointment, the driver will relay the details to the vet from your intake form and either hand the phone to you to speak directly to the vet or translate your words to the vet if they only speak Spanish. You’ll also receive photo updates of your pet at their Tijuana vet appointment.

During this time, it is important that you ask all your questions, discuss any additional requests you may have forgotten on your intake form, understand how much those add-on items will cost and ask the driver or billing team if those items will increase your transportation rate.

If your pet has an overnight appointment, you will be provided with the vet’s contact information so you can ask for an update directly.

After Your Vet Appointment

Once your pet has completed their appointment, your assigned driver will let you know when they are ready to come back home. This may include a follow-up phone call from the vet or the courier to relay the vet recommendations for after care medication, dietary changes or when they would like to see the pet back again. Your courier or an admin will let you know when they are crossing back over the border with your pet and the estimated arrival to your drop off location.

For any test results or imaging, you can expect the vet to forward those results in about 5-10 business days. Keep in mind that results in Mexico are often delayed, so you may need to call the vet directly if the results are urgent or ask for those results to be expedited.. Also keep in mind that vets in Mexico do not keep records for your pet, so make sure to ask the Vet ahead of time for all your documents like vaccination records or ask for vet notes in advance if you need  to submit paperwork for your pet insurance.

Paying Your Vet Appointment Invoice

Shortly after your appointment, you will receive a text from the billing department alerting you to your invoice in the pet portal. It is very important to contact them right away if anything looks wrong. It is very difficult to correct a charge once the driver has left the clinic. Vet bills are due upon receipt just like they are in the US. Some vets may ask for a deposit on certain treatments, such as major surgeries. It’s important that you be prepared to pay your bill the day of your pet’s visit. If you are a new customer, you will need to set up an account with us prior to your vet appointment to receive your bill online. You can pay with a debit or credit card.
